Where we search in Tarrant County
Every community sets its own screening criteria. No part of the county is easy or hard across the board. What an area does change is the mix of buildings. At older, locally managed places, a manager can read your file. Newer corporate buildings run fixed cutoffs, though they often take a guarantor program. Pick the part of the county you need to live in.
Downtown Fort Worth
Tarrant County · Fort Worth Housing Solutions
Mid-rise and high-rise buildings around the county courthouse, mostly Class A with corporate criteria. A rent special lowers the price, but the screening bar stays put.
East Fort Worth

Older, locally managed buildings from Meadowbrook to Handley, and newer ones toward Eastchase along I-30. Several have changed owners lately, so we keep up with who runs them now.
North Fort Worth

Its own housing authority, older stock from Collins Street to Fish Creek, and corporate Class A around the stadiums and SH-360.
North Richland Hills

Older buildings along Loop 820 in Birdville ISD, and the newer City Point development, where criteria are stricter.
Hurst, Euless and Bedford

Three cities sharing one main school district along SH-183, next to DFW Airport. For airport and airline workers, documenting shift pay is often the sticking point.
Mansfield
Tarrant, Johnson and Ellis counties · population 80,803 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2024 estimate)
Mostly new construction with corporate criteria and little room for a manager to bend. A lease-up special can help cover a guarantor program.
Burleson and Crowley

Older SH-174 and Crowley Road buildings next to newer Chisholm Trail Parkway ones, with the Tarrant and Johnson county line running through.

Which housing authority covers your address
A Housing Choice Voucher is run by the agency where you live, and each one sets its own payment standards and inspection schedule. Moving a voucher from one agency to another is called porting. It takes time, so build that into your plan. We look up the agency for the exact address, since city limits and county lines don't always match.

Arlington
Runs its own voucher program for Arlington, with its own payment standards and inspection schedule.
Grand Prairie Housing and Neighborhood Services
Grand Prairie
Grand Prairie runs its own voucher program too. It covers the whole city, on both sides of the Tarrant and Dallas county line.

Which court hears a filing
An eviction filing at a Tarrant County address goes to the Tarrant County Justice of the Peace courts. It's public from the day it's filed. The Johnson County side of Burleson goes to the Johnson County JP courts, and the Dallas County side of Grand Prairie goes to Dallas County's. Trophy Club and Roanoke addresses go to the Denton County JP courts. Screening companies pull records from all of them, so moving across a county line won't hide one.
